Happy Clients Are Saying...

I'm a 250 lb former Marine and current 30 year firefighter/paramedic/tactical medic. I thought I was strong and pretty tough. Then, I met Kristie. She has humbled me physically, mentally, and spiritually with her knowledge of the multiple aspects involved with physical fitness and nutrition and how they weave together. Even when I'm left shaking and sweating after one of her training sessions, I always feel smarter after listening to her teachings about what we're doing and why. I feel like my body is always stronger but never broken after her workouts, and you can't help but adore her when you see how much she loves Jesus and how much she loves sharing it all with you. Mind, body, and spirit - she covers it all.

What is Myofascial Release and How Does it Work?

Fascia is a vast network of connective tissue that encases every organ, muscle, and bone in the body. It provides structural support to muscles, enables balance, helps you sense your body’s position, and allows for fluid and controlled movement. As the body's largest sensory organ, it plays a crucial role in transmitting information from the environment to the brain, helping you understand and navigate your surroundings. When fascia is healthy, it enables muscles and tissues to slide easily over each other, supports the circulation of fluids, and ensures smooth, pain-free movement, with no restrictions or discomfort as you move.

Fascia can become restricted or fibrotic, leading to several issues such as:

  • Constriction around nerves and blood vessels

  • Pain signals sent to the brain

  • Difficulty in muscle contraction and relaxation

  • Reduced range of motion

This happens due to everyday activities like repetitive movements, overuse, injury, stress, emotional trauma, and even inactivity.

Restricted fascia can cause trigger points, which are painful spots on the body. These restrictions can affect areas far from the initial spot, creating referred pain.

Fascia connects muscles along "myofascial chains," and when there's a restriction in one area, it often causes pain in other areas, like joints above or below the restriction. For example, shoulder pain may stem from an issue elsewhere in the body.

Understanding myofascial chains and trigger point pain patterns is crucial for identifying and addressing the root cause of pain, not just the symptoms. Self-myofascial release is an effective way to relieve pain and improve range of motion without costly treatments or endless stretching.

Why don't you teach traditional yoga and how is what you teach different?

Why I Don’t Teach Traditional Yoga—and What I Do Instead

I have the autoimmune disease Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Because it wasn’t diagnosed early, for decades my thyroid swung between overproducing and underproducing hormones until it finally began to burn out. Being a Type A, driven, high-achieving person, I ignored the symptoms, accepted my doctors’ advice that medication was the only option, and pushed through. I ran half-marathons, played competitive tennis, worked full-time, and went to graduate school—all while my body was crying for rest.

In 2017, my body hit its breaking point. The stress of my husband leaving me and my five-month-old baby—right after we had moved states, changed jobs, and settled into a new home—was too much for my system to handle. I had no choice but to reevaluate everything. I started with food, becoming a nutritionist and diving into healing through diet. But I quickly learned that no meal plan could heal the underlying damage of chronic stress and an overburdened nervous system. Lifestyle changes were necessary, too.

At that time, I realized I needed to step away from long-distance running, at least for a season. But I still wanted to stay strong and active—so I turned to yoga. It was everywhere, and everyone recommended it.

By 2020, I had been practicing yoga semi-regularly with YouTube videos. When the pandemic hit, my husband encouraged me to pursue certification, and I became a 500-hour certified yoga instructor.

That’s when my convictions started stirring.

The Unavoidable Roots of Yoga

During my training, I learned more about yoga’s origins, and I couldn’t ignore what I was discovering. The word “yoga” means “union”—not just physical movement, but a spiritual practice aimed at uniting with the “Higher Self” or the universe. I studied books linking all yoga poses (asanas) to Hindu gods like Krishna and Hanuman. I learned about Kundalini, a serpent energy supposedly coiled at the base of the spine, meant to be awakened through yoga to achieve spiritual enlightenment. Our breathing practices, pranayama, were aimed at helping Kundalini ascend and controlling the "life force" within us.

As I mastered the movements, I found myself praying spiritual protection over my practice, asking that no influence of Kundalini or false deities would enter me. I wanted to hold onto the physical benefits of yoga while stripping away its spiritual roots—but I wrestled deeply with whether that was even possible.

Even as I led classes, including at my church, I felt conflicted. I dedicated my movement to God, prayed before and during practice, and meditated on Scripture rather than emptying my mind. But something inside me remained unsettled. Was I truly glorifying God? Or was I falling suspect to the lure the enemy had laid in our society's acceptance of this art?

The Breaking Point

For years, I continued to practice with modifications, searching for clarity. Then, in early 2025, something happened that changed everything. A dear friend—someone who loved God deeply—fell into a devastating spiritual battle. As I sought wisdom from strong believers, I kept hearing the same warning: We don’t always know how the enemy gains access to our lives. Maybe it was something seemingly innocent—like yoga, acupuncture, or energy work—that unknowingly opened a door.

The weight of Mark 9:42 hit me hard:

"If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea."

I couldn’t ignore the possibility that, even with my good intentions, I might be leading others into spiritual confusion. I had a choice: I could continue teaching yoga and live with that uncertainty, or I could make a radical change. Jesus never hesitated to challenge traditions and turn things upside down for the sake of truth. So, I followed His example.

I stepped away from yoga.

What I Teach Now

The movement classes I now lead—Biblical Restorative Alignment and PraiseMoves—are fully rooted in God’s design. They are about honoring Yahweh, the Creator of heaven and earth. Instead of aligning with energy centers or mythical figures, we align with Scripture. Each movement is paired with God’s Word, strengthening not just our bodies but our spirits.

Yes, some postures resemble yoga poses—because the human body can only move in so many ways. But the foundation is entirely different. This isn’t about enlightenment or inner divinity. It’s about worship, healing, and dedicating our movement to the Lord.

What About Secular Restorative Alignment?

I also recognize the need for movement-based wellness in schools, workplaces, and fitness studios. Having spent over 20 years in education and several years in the corporate world, I understand the pressures people face. Stress and burnout are real, and movement is a powerful tool for physical and mental well-being.

That’s why I offer a secular version of my restorative alignment classes—one that keeps all the physical benefits without any spiritual overtones. Unlike yoga, which cannot be fully separated from its religious origins, my secular classes provide gentle stretching, strengthening, and relaxation techniques in a completely neutral format. No poses tied to deities. No Sanskrit. No mantras. Just safe, effective movement to restore and realign the body.

At the end of the day, my mission is to help people—physically, mentally, and spiritually. Whether in faith-based or secular settings, I am committed to offering movement that is safe, nourishing, and aligned with truth.

Faith in Motion

Honoring God with Mind, Body, & Spirit

During the pandemic, I became a yoga instructor, drawn to the gentle movement my body desperately needed. But over time, I felt a deep conviction—the roots of the practice didn’t align with my faith. I wanted to be sure that everything I did, every movement I taught, honored God fully. So, I began transforming my practice, incorporating prayer, scripture, Biblical meditation, and a focus on worshiping the Lord with my whole being. The result? Greater peace, deeper healing, and a renewed connection to God.

That is how these practices were born. They are not yoga, but they carry the same benefits—gentle movement, strength, flexibility, and restoration—while being fully rooted in Christ. At Nessa Faith Vitality, we move in a way that glorifies God, strengthens our bodies, and renews our minds. Whether through Restorative Alignment, PraiseMoves, Fascia Tension Release, or deep relaxation in Serenity Sessions, every class is an opportunity to draw closer to Him, care for the body He has given you, and find stillness in His presence.

Your body was bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20), and my mission is to help you honor God with it—through movement, breath, and worship. And because these practices offer profound physical and mental benefits, they can also be adapted for workplaces, fitness studios, and community spaces without the Biblical focus—making them accessible to anyone who wants to reduce stress, improve mobility, and cultivate stillness. Whether you seek a faith-based experience or simply the restorative power of movement, these classes provide a path to strength, peace, and renewal.

Wishing you grace, peace, wellness, and a closer walk with God,
